Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? - Martin Jr. Bill Board Book
In this Eric Carle Book, pictures of appealing animals in bold colors are seen and named in a rhyming question-and-response text that delights as it invites young readers and listeners to participate actively. Book Review: Ages 3-5. A picture book full of rhyme and repetition that will appeal to preschoolers. The big brown bear lumbering across the two-page spread sees a red bird looking at me the vibrant bird sees a bright-yellow duck, and so they go, each animal more appealing than the next. Literal-minded children may have some problems with a purple cat or a blue horse, but most will just enjoy pointing out their favorite pictures and joining in on the singsong verse. Carle's large collages bursting with color are perfect for the text. Sure to become a favorite in nursery schools and kindergartens- by IC, Booklist, December 1, 1983 CUSTOMER REVIEWS "Love love love this book… and more than me, my baby loves it. It’s a kids classic and mumsbuddy made it available here… I have been reading this book to my son since he was 11 months (just about the time he got interested in books) and to this day (he is 26 months now) we read it at least once a day. The repetitive words of the book work very well for all babies and it gives them a rhythm to the book. The book does not have any story as such, but mentions different animals in weird colors (purple cat, blue horse). Children learn animals and colors. Eric Carle’s illustrations are very vibrant. Just say the words ‘ brown bear brown bear what do you see’ to my wailing child and he would point to the shelf where we keep this book. Its pure magic. Perfect baby shower gift or a first birthday gift." "I've had three children who fell in love with this book around age two. It does a wonderful job of teaching colors, animals and rhyme to toddlers. Aided by Carle's unique illustrations, this book begs to be chanted by the parent who will be reading it for the umpteenth time. ("Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see? I see a red bird looking at me. Red bird, red bird, what do you see? I see a ....." etc., etc.) The cadence and rhythm of the words have fascinated my youngsters as they learn to identify different colored animals populating the pages of the book. Strictly a teaching tool, the book does not have a story per se, but it seems to be just right for the child who is just beginning to discover the larger world."
